Tuscaloosa, Alabama

Tuscaloosa, Alabama

Built upon family values, the Tuscaloosa area serves a regional market of more than 300,000 people. Tuscaloosa County is a vibrant place to call home, and is continually listed in the top third of America's most livable communities. The emphasis in the area is on quality living and thriving business, but the area manages to keep the atmosphere of culture, tradition and antebellum beauty that draws praise and appreciation.

The area now known as Tuscaloosa County was solely inhabited by indigenous people until Hernando DeSoto arrived in 1540. The name Tuscaloosa is derived from the Choctaw Indian chief Tushkauloosa or "Black Warrior." Tuscaloosa and Tuscaloosa County were officially created in 1819. Tuscaloosa served as the state capital of Alabama from 1826 to 1845.

Tuscaloosa County is located in West Alabama where the Appalachian range begins to end and meets the coastal plain of Alabama. The land consists of both hills and mountains to the North as well as flat, fertile land to the south. Tuscaloosa County's average temperature is 63.4 F. The area is 50 miles southwest of Birmingham and 95 miles to the west of Montgomery, Atlanta, Nashville, Memphis, and Jackson, Mississippi. Tuscaloosa is a large city with a small town mentality.

Tuscaloosa county, also know as the "Capstone of Education" is home to the The University of Alabama Area, one of the nation's premier institutions of higher learning and research. The University was founded in 1831 and was the first public university in the state. Over 20,000 graduate and undergraduate students are currently enrolled at the The University of Alabama Area and is the #1 employer of Tuscaloosa.

The economic profile of Tuscaloosa is both thriving and diverse. Tuscaloosa County is home to the Mercedes-Benz U.S. International Plant, JVC America, Uniroyal Goodrich Tire Manufacturing, among others.

Real Estate Tips
First Time Buyers >A Good Start

When a real estate agent begins to work with a new buyer, we will sit down with you, ask a number of questions, and listen carefully to your answers. Our purpose during this initial interview is to get a clear idea of what kind of property you are looking for and your approximate price range. We explain how we will function as your representative, what the local market is like, and what we can do to help you locate that perfect home.

It is important for you as a prospective buyer to be as clear as possible about your needs. After we have talked and you have decided how much you can comfortably spend, we will know how to facilitate your home search. We won't take you through a three-story colonial with a top floor master suite if you want to avoid climbing up and down stairs! Establishing clear communication with our clients helps us save you hours of unfocused house hunting.
